2007 Lotus Elise Review

2007 Lotus Elise

In 2007, Elise is roughly the same car that came to America for the 2005 model year, after several years, and another generation of European sales. An extruded aluminium chassis is suspended by the arms control front and rear. A Yamaha original Toyota 1.8-liter four-cylinder provides 190 ponies of the value of the power. A copious amount of brake seems restarted dual piston calipers AP Racing at the front and single-piston Brembos at the rear; 11.5-inch cross-drilled and vented rotors give them something to remember.

The only changes from year to year mainly concerned the list of options and the addition of different packs-Touring, Premium, assemblies, special forged wheels, Sport and Track-centre half on comfort rather that performance. It should be noted that the 2007 models has been redesigned headlamps to fully abide by the American regulations and the 2006 models boasted rejiggered pedal boxes that have provided more space and easier heel-toe down.

The $1350 Touring Pack includes leather seats, a sound insulation (the base car has none), a few squares of carpet, and a little bit of storage behind the seats. After tourism, buyers can choose the Premium package, but adds that these embellishments covered with leather, the pommel shifter, we prefer aluminum-ball Alpine XM-ready head of a cushion for the storage tray and the jock-strap cup holder. The Special Pack Stitching can dress up the interior.

But who cares? The only packets to match the other three are: Forged Wheel, Sport and trace. The pack of forged wheels forged aluminum wheels are wider at the front by a half-inch (6.0 versus 5.5 inches, the rear wheels are 7.5 inches wide, regardless of the package) and reduce the unsprung weight of 20 pounds are, or are not necessary, but if you plan to upgrade $ 2480 Sport Pack. The Sport Pack, which also includes forged aluminum wheels with 6.5 inches wide fronts-nabs a more aggressive state-tuning for the suspension and throws the standard Advan Yokohama Neova AD07s for even marked Yokohama Advan A048s.

The Track Pack is the last frontier. For $ 2495, adjustable Bilstein shocks with remote reservoirs, five way adjustable front anti-roll bar, a tracking link to reinforce the rear suspension, and the attachment points bolt safety harness and a small bar Tower on Elise Mangeur even more of a runway. Additional results-oriented options include traction control, which can also be supplied with a limited-slip diff dollars for 1790.

We would like to be able to tell you how awesome a devilishly Elise is equipped with all the go-fast train we simply listed we'd probably say Caterhams baby eats for breakfast, BMW M3s sacrifices on the altar of speed, and Calls for lightning to strike every challenger-Spec Miata, but the fact of the matter is that our test car, but had three options: yellow paint ($595), the Touring Pack, and Star Shield ($995), the latter of which covers the front face various parts of the car with a plastic protective film.

But to tell you the truth, not having or Sport Track Pack does not matter a bit. 2007 Lotus Elise yet blew off our skullcaps our brain and sent on a one-way trip to liquefaction. It's that good.

Much of the goodness that has to do with the fact that the Elise, according to our scales, checks in 1975 to a term of books, including fluid. For reference, that is 1225 pounds less than the brand new Subaru Impreza WRX 2008. The 6600-plus-pound Hummer H2 weighs more than three times more than the Elise.

The 190 horsepower Toyota/Yamaha four sounds sweet, but a little rough, but never as good as when you came in, what goes on when the tach needle sweeps past 6200 rpm. Then the cacophony from behind your head swells to its ultimate peak, buzzing its way deep into your bones all the way to the red line, in which you move the shift lever in the next train and have a another will wake up, to death. Max power comes at 7800 rpm, while maximum torque of just 138 foot-pounds is a bit lower, at 6800 rpm. (Power junkies: An atmospheric version of this engine powers the fixed roof Demands S, and the rumour has a more powerful Elise coming our way soon.)

Naturally, then, we spent as much time as deeply buried in the tachometer as possible, we need to hear that fantastic, top-four belts of his best Axl Rose impression. Even so, with all staff flogging holy Lotus to hell for a little over 2000 miles, we have achieved 25 mpg combined with some individual tanks back up to 30 mpg.

2008 Audi TT Quattro

2008 Audi TT Quattro

Audi unveiled the TT quattro 2.0 TDI, a new version of the TT sports car powered by an all-new 2.0 liter TDI engine. The engine is available on the Coupe and Roadster versions.

The two-litre engine generates dynamic propulsion of 258.15 hp and 170 lb.-ft. of torque, but the TT Coupe and TT Roadster consume an average of only 5.3 liters and 5.5 liters of fuel per 100 km (44 , 42.77 mpg and 38 mpg), respectively - without precedent in the segment of sports car.

Audi is once again setting standards, this time with the new Audi TT and its TDI-engine model that combines powerful and pure sportsmanship sensational performance effectively. The Audi TT coupe 2.0 TDI quattro and Audi TT Roadster 2.0 TDI quattro is the first mass production of sports cars typical of diesel engines. It is an imperative Union:

The two-litre engine generates dynamic propulsion of 125 kW (170 hp) and 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft) of torque, the TT Coupe and TT Roadster and consume an average of only 5.3 and 5.5 liters litres of fuel per 100 km (Mpg 44.38 and 42.77 mpg), respectively-unprecedented in the segment of sports car.

Audi is the pace with this excellent summary of dynamism and low fuel consumption, as it has done for many years: since its inception in 1989, the TDI engines of the brand with the four rings were paving the way for the The most vivid proof of efficiency and technology serving as the tone for the entire automotive industry. Today, these powerful, sophisticated and highly fuel-efficient engines represent a smart modern take on sportsmanship. The term victories achieved by Audi R10 TDI diesel race car at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and in the American Le Mans Series are impressive evidence of the enormous potential of this technology.

The dynamics of diesel Audi stimulating exercise influence not only in the races, but also in the series production models-and now, in fact in a sports car. The TT Coupe Quattro 2.0 TDI with the sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 km/h) in 7.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 226 km / h (140.43 km/h) . The Audi TT Roadster, similarly equipped with quattro permanent all-wheel drive, requires only an extra tenth of a second for the standard sprint, and continues to a top speed of 223 km/h (138.57 km/h). Both versions serve as outstanding examples of the success of the strategy effectively Audi, thanks to their energy efficiency ratings of 5.5 litres per 100 km (42.77 mpg), a number that corresponds to CO2 emissions only 145 g/km.
Powerful, refined and efficient: The 2.0 TDI

The new system of common-rail injection is equipped with very modern piezo injectors, whose eight-hole injection nozzles can perform up to five separate sequences injection per cycle. This fine degree of modulation creates a modest increase in the pressure in the combustion chambers, which has significantly reduced the noise level. The system of 1800 bar pressure fuel can form a fine dispersion, allowing precise, highly efficient combustion.

The turbocharger is also part of a new generation, and works with adjustable blades that allow the couple to build quickly. The positions of swirl flaps on the intake manifold are controlled by electric motors, in order to adjust the airflow to the current load and engine speed. The geometry of piston engine has been modified, and the acoustics of the drive belt of camshaft have been modernized. Just as they did in the previous model, two balance shafts to reduce vibrations that arise in the crankshaft drive.

The cumulative result of these advances is a high engine speed of 5000 rpm and, more importantly, the improvement of thermodynamics in the combustion chambers. This means that the engine can run on a maximum of 60 percent of the exhaust gas recycling, which has been carefully cooled radiator. This results in a drastic reduction of NOx untreated, with the 2.0 TDI already reached the threshold values of the future Euro 5.
Dynamic road performance

The 2.0 TDI in the Audi TT Coupe and the Audi TT Roadster delivers 125 kW (170 hp) at 4200 rpm and sends a full 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft) of torque to the engine crankshaft at speeds between 1750 and 2500 rpm. Quiet operation and low vibration, the model provides a great amount of electricity as low rpm and is very sensitive to the input from the accelerator. His supreme power in the development of this engine produces its own unique, fascinating, as a strong, intelligent motor sports.

The Audi TT Coupe 2.0 TDI quattro easily leaves gasoline power behind the competition during acceleration and judgement. The sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 km/h) in only 7.5 seconds and never looks back until it reaches 226 kph (140.43 mph). The TT Roadster accelerates to 100 km/h (62.14 km/h) in 7.7 seconds and keeps up to 223 kph (138.57 mph).

These models of the first sports car diesel consume an average of only 5.3 liters and 5.5 liters of fuel per 100 km (44.38 and 42.77 mpg mpg), respectively, corresponding to emission CO2 of only 140 g/km and 145 G/km. In doing so, they have established a benchmark that represents a real quantum leap in the segment of sports car. With the TDI engine in the TT series, Audi establishes once again his role as the market leader in diesel. The brand with the four rings is progress and starting from the top.

In keeping with the theme of athletic performance, Audi has combined his two diesel engines of sports cars with highly effective six-speed manual transmission with short trip lever allows the driver to move quickly, easily and accurately. The housings for these transmissions are made of lightweight, high-tech materials magnesium. Relatively long final reports of transmission were used to put the transmission in line with the TDI engine.

In light of their high torque values, Audi is to equip two of its new models TT quattro permanent all-wheel drive. The heart of this system is electronically controlled, hydraulically actuated multi-plate clutch, which is located at the rear of the car for better weight distribution. This usually clutch distributes up to 85 percent of engine power to the front axle and 15 percent for the rear axle, in extreme situations, it can divert up to 100 percent of the power either to the axle.

Efforts to reduce the weight of vehicles are also part of the strategy effectiveness of the four rings mark. Both sports cars are very light: 2 + 2 seating TT Coupe weighs about 1370 kg (3020.33 pounds) when empty, while the two-seater TT Roadster with hood weighs about 1415 kg (3119.54 pounds ). Behind these low body weight is an innovative hybrid construction developed by Audi. Front components are made of aluminum and the use of space technology Frame; rear components are made of steel. This solution ensures that the context is as rigid as possible and optimize load distribution between the axles.

The Audi TT Coupe and TT Roadster are dynamic, emotion-packed sports cars. As was the case with previous models, these cars are impressive for their powerful design, which continues the momentum on flows inwards. The cockpit nods contains multiple grounds of the circle, and the sport steering wheel with his flat bottom rim is the part of the driver like a glove. The sport seats are deeply set, offering a sitting position and strong support sporting side. The back of the rear seats, twice in the TT Coupe, the trunk space will increase from 290 to 700 cubic litres (10.24 - 24.72 cubic feet). The Roadster (250 litres, 8.83 cubic feet) comes with a practice-through hatch loading upon request.

The sport suspension also extraordinarily dynamic features. The front suspension is pivoted on an aluminum subframe and has extensive runway is 1572 mm (61.89 inches).

A very precise steering rack directly with a system of steering ratio provides a strong link between the driver and the road. Attending servo steering, which decreases as the speed increases, is generated by an electromechanical drive that is even more effective than hydraulic pump.

The coil springs and shock absorbers in the four-link rear axle are located in separate areas. Links are also finely differentiated: The layout of the trailing links, which absorb the forces of propulsion and braking is relatively soft to promote a comfortable ride. Connections to cross three links per wheel, however, are rigid in order to direct the forces in the body with precision.

The Audi TT coupe 2.0 TDI quattro and Audi TT Roadster 2.0 TDI quattro roll, the 16-inch, equipped with cast aluminum wheels with 255/55 R16 tyres. Behind the wheels are big disc brakes with platelets, which develop high friction coefficients. The stabilisation programme ESP supports the neutral to slightly understeering feel the TT-the finishing touch to an overall picture of the dynamics of exciting, exhilarating driving pleasure and stability, you can count.

Audi magnetic ride, a high-tech shock absorber system available as an option, is an adaptive system that resolves the traditional conflict of interest between comfort and handling. A magneto-rheological fluid circulating in the shock absorber change the direction of the magnetic particles within milliseconds when electricity is applied, changing the general characteristics of the fluid and, in turn, alters the damping characteristics. The driver can choose between "Normal" and "Sport" programs flipping a switch.

Standard equipment for both new models TT reflects the sporty and sophisticated in the series. Faux aluminum accents to add a glow grey inlays and various other components within. The steering wheel sport comes with a leather cover wallet. The system climate control (standard for the TT Coupe) regulates heating and ventilation depending on the level of sunlight. The driver and the information system chorus audio system complement the standard equipment.

A wide range of high-tech equipment is available in the form of options, including a very modern generation of audio gear, electrically adjustable front seats, adaptive light dynamic cornering light system and two navigation systems with a user interface based on the Audi MMI concept-a cup above the competition.

2008 Infiniti G37 Sport Full Test

2008 Infiniti G37 Sport

Back in the so-called good old days, when a car was offered in both coupe and sedan forms, you can count on the two-door version is lighter, sportier and more elegant. This is almost the case with the 2008 Infiniti G37 coupe, but not quite, as it is about 100 pounds heavier than its sedan counterpart, the G35, most of which underlie it.

Infiniti Coupe's said the greatest need to build doors to achieve a high side crash rating. Extra crash structure adds weight, but do not expect a "murderer of Homeland Security Coupe Sport" title so soon. Larger brakes and engines slightly heavier bring some books too. Earn 100 pounds, is an unfortunate, but not to get rid of inexcusable way of the family-car image and increase your sex appeal.

The G37 copes with the additional weight on his sedan stablemate and meets the criterion-sport with a new version of the 3.7-litre Nissan VQ engine venerable V-6. The boost comes from a longer stroke displacement; both the 3, 5 and 3.7 litre engines in the G-car feature a taller frame than the previous generation of engines. The G37 takes the latest improvements to the engine a little further and adds variable valve timing and variable lift on the supply side, and the compression ratio increases to 11.0:1. Energy is up 24 hp at 330, and the torque output rises two pounds-feet to 270.

The extra power is not much difference in the test track. The 0 to-60 sprint in 5.3 seconds was 0.2 seconds faster than the G35 we compared with a BMW 328i, but 0.1 seconds slower than the premier'07 G35 we tested in October 2006. For the quarter mark miles, the G37 is dead even with the October G35: 13.9 seconds at 103 mph. A much larger improvement in the G37, power increases aside, is the fact that it no longer sounds like it make semolina inside the engine. The VQ is smooth again, and the exhaust note is a pleasant burble that is always available with a puree of rapid electronic throttle.

The six-speed manual transmission has been redesigned as well. The difference between the G35 sedan and G37 Coupe is more subtle than the engine change, but the cut of the new gearbox feels a little smoother. The shift throws are short, and so is the clutch pedal travel, which engages with a finesse that BMW has only just begun to discuss with the latest round 3.

The G37 is the same suspension-control forearm and multilink rear setup as the G35 sedan. Our test car came with the sport, making it the standard six-speed manual and with the optional automatic transmission. It adds a red "S" on the rear badging and includes a stiffer suspension, limited-slip differential, and 19-inch wheels with high-performance Bridgestone rubber. The configuration is good for 0.89 g on the skidpad, and the G37 is impressive on the road.

When it comes to sport optional packages, we are suckers for the promise of better traction and handling, but the ride is usually resulting mission leaves us on the low-profile tires and stiff springs. This is not the case with the G37. The frame absorbs road bumps without a rattle, and the direction is precise and communicative. The ride is stiffer than that of a BMW 3 Series, but the G37 is a huge improvement over the old cut with the sport suspension, which is shocking on any rough surface that freshly waxed linoleum. Immerse yourself in a turn, and the G37 transfers its weight gradually and without surprises. Oversteering can be achieved at the corner exit, but the neutral balance of the car means that any opposite-lock maneuvers are more of a four-wheel drift that gas-induced tail wagging. The only thing we ask is a brake pedal more rigid, even though 70 per-0 stopping distance is a respectable 164 feet. However, Infiniti G37 is the most satisfying driving experience. It has the character of a good sports car: Driving the G37 drive is so much fun that you forgive his faults.

The problems are mostly the result of style. Make no mistake, the G37 is more elegant than the saloon and thus satisfies most of the criteria for sedan-cut conversion, but the trade-offs are, well, a pain in the ass. Infiniti G37 is approximately four inches shorter in length, two inches wide and 2.5 cm lower than the G35 sedan. Compared to the old G35 coupe, the G37 is about one inch long and slightly wider and lower. All three cars ride on the same 112.2-inch wheelbase. Inside, and there is the problem - the G37 is less than 1.4 inches high that the G35 sedan when both are equipped with sunroofs. Clearance is sufficiently low that sub-six footers may find their brushing hair garnish, depending on the position and quantity of foam behind their backs. The rear seat, which has less than 4.7 cm legroom that Infiniti G35 sedan (and less than 1.6 in the G35 coupe), is higher than the close. Sardined adults in the back are confronted with the possibility of inclination of the head or slouching sideways past the point of reasonable comfort. At least there is a nice button next to the front seat folding leverage that supplies for the front seat occupants and then returns the seat of his knee crushing original position.

Rabat rear seats in one piece to extend the trunk, a good thing because seven cubic feet of storage space is not much. There is a diagram that illustrates how to load two bags of golf, but the first impression of the shallow trunk is a case of beer is likely to be crushed (not).

As in any cup, the front seats are the place to be. G37s equipped with the sport package increases power on the driver's side to go to the manual leg extension, which are also on the passenger's seat. The dashboard is identical to the G35 coupe, with a colour monitor to control the radio, climate control, and optional nav system. It is very pleasant to the aluminum lining has a beautiful surface finish in particular-but some of the plastics looks cheaper than it should, like the pieces surrounding the steering wheel audio and cruise-control buttons.

So, it is the price of vanity, and therefore the real problem with the G37. The previous generation coupe is much more attractive than its sedan counterpart. Le'07 four-door G35 is much more beautiful than its predecessor, aesthetics and the gap has been reduced. As far as most drivers will be able to say, the performance of the two is roughly equal.

Are the most gentle and motor sports headquarters for the loss of value of rear-seat and cargo space? Maybe the question is to miss the point. The argument against cutting sedan is more a matter of taste and style as any of the facts and figures. What is important is that the G37 coupe is a luxury successfully: fast, stylish and fun to drive.
There is another question, however: How does the cell G37 against the BMW 335i Coupe? It's hard to say without putting them side by side in a comparison test, but you can bet the G37 give the Bimmer a good fight.

Of course, the G37 has big horses, management believe that the terribly close to the top-dog 3-series, and graciously neutral handling. In his hands, a landlord, however, the G is bound to catch casual commute detail, and that's when the engine seems a little coarse, the clutch is difficult to move smoothly, and the joystick gear shift viscous as if nothing vibrates attached to a luxury car should ever. Make sure you are an addicted performance before choosing a G37 on the sublime polished BMW 328i.

Mitsubishi Lancer Prototype S for Geneva Motor Show

Mitsubishi Lancer Prototype S

The first official images of the Mitsubishi Lancer Prototype-S have been poured into the Internet before the car its debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month. More than one version of pre-production of a concept, a prototype S-Launch previews the shape of the next Lancer Sportback (5door hatch), which should be introduced into the European market this summer.

In particular, the prototype S-previews the Lancer Sportback Ralliart which compoete on the head with the Subaru Impreza WRX. Like the sedan Lancer Ralliart that we saw in the Detroit Show, the prototype-S is equipped with a detuned version of the EVO X 2.0-litre turbo-reactor (delivering 240 PS and 343 Nm of torque) in combination with a double clutch SST Gearbox and a full-time 4WD drive with Mitsubishi Motors' Active Center Differential.

If something else, the Prototype-S 'specs mechanical sound very promising. Too bad we can not say the same about the concept looks…

2008 Audi TT Roadster Review

2008 Audi TT Roadster

When Audi TT Coupe and Roadster werer anounced in 2000, both had the distinct mark of the Art Deco-inspired styling. It did not matter to many that the proponents of the new sports car were more monotonous-Volkswagen parts bin pieces - the TT's fabulous telegram style a modern twist on an earlier era, sports car while providing performance levels and the influence of Audi quattro all-wheel drive.

Fast-forward to the 2008 model year, and the TT is returned. Only Deco's been detuned for something a little more commercial. And the TT itself was composed of two notches. Instead of being a part Frankencar-bin, the new Audi TT has made its own chassis, which is made of lightweight aluminum. It is much harder-edged, from its flat bottom driving his gearshift coupled powerful and direct-injection engines.

It is impossible not to notice how beautiful the new Audi sports car, although its themes are more modern than generically in its first edition. Not more Bauhaus bone or Deco details - TT today is bright and clear.

On the outside, le'08 TT is considerably longer and wider than before. The wheelbase has been extended by about two inches, giving it a little more usable interior room, which we will discuss shortly. But in general, the form is still familiar with inverted bathtub "chopped" roof as defined in the original, but with a little more masculine (and even Porsche-like) cuts to it.

It is certainly attractive. But for me, the profile does not have the "wow, check that out!" Quotient of the first year of TT. Too many other cars are too similar. For example, Nissan 350Z can easily be mistaken for a new TT.

Brouille the distinction in the cockpit as well. In the past, the TT wore aluminum trim on the dashboard, on the shifter and on the air vents, as jewellery. He even an option-seat trim sewn together that the TT's buckets as baseball gloves. This time, the cabin is much more useful, the scoreboard, more compact and details better integrated. The aluminum trim is there, but it is lower - and the center console of the main feature today is not a group of metal hide radio is a big screen interface for the multimedia and Audi navigation system, when it is ordered. It's less fun, a little darker, and much more for the sport than for the show.

Although there is a choice of $35575 front-drive TT roadster with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a six-speed double-clutch automatic, $45275, or the V-6 TT Roadster with all-wheel drive and a six-speed manual (Automatic option), we pushed the four turbo roadster, which is closer in spirit and in pricing in the first TT led us eight years ago.

The 2.0-liter turbo four delivers 200 horsepower and 207 lb.-ft. of torque. It is a four-cylinder with muscular one of the most linear power supplies of any turbo engine that we know. A small whistle while it works is the only clue that there is no massive, large displacement engine hiding under the shapely bonnet TT. It is 20 horsepower more powerful than the 1.8-liter turbo four in the old Audi TT, and it gets better fuel economy, too, at 22/29 mpg. Audi said with the 200 horses that you can shoot four to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds.

(TTS A new version, incidentally, comes from the month of November and the four increases the power to 272 hp.)

If you just have to be expensive TT Roadster, the 3.2-liter six-cylinder 250 hp and 236 lb.-ft. of torque and a six-speed manual transmission standard. His growl is considerably throatier than the turbo four, and it does deliver some additional power with a huge price increase - but not much more than speed. Its 0-60 mph run takes about 5.7 seconds, Audi estimates.

A note on the transmission: manual gearboxes treaty could give the ultimate control over shifting, but VW/Audi 's double-clutch automatic is one of our favorite substitutes. By effectively coupling two automatic transmission in a single housing, the TT's "S-tronic" automatic can prepare and upshifts down on a clutch while the other had been released, giving smooth and fast with gearchanges transmission little whip. It's a good idea, it is copied to the automotive world - in the new BMW M3, by Dodge in Euro versions of the new Journey, and no doubt many others to come.

Like most any modern sports car, the TT has high levels of lateral grip and can take corners at high speeds, before the tires or the chassis even begin to consider their levels of comfort. The electric steering assistance is good enough, too - neither more nor boosted anesthetic. It is not as strong as what you can find in a BMW or even a new Lexus GS, but it is certainly a step up from the previous TT.

The V-6 versions of the roadster, Audi offers a magnetically damped suspension reflexive changing its behavior as the road surface changes. Although we have cars equipped with this system, we tend to prefer Audi normal settings of the suspension four-cylinder model. Its base MacPherson strut front suspension and four-link rear have a basic goodness in their compound, which allows the electric power steering to respond quite naturally - and these systems have not always good idea. The ride comfortable enough for a small short-wheelbase roadster that sits close to the ground - but we would not advise ordering optional S-line package and its 19-inch wheels, unless you live near roads perfectly smooth.

Even on the standard 17-inch wheels, with the electric power steering, the TT currently enjoys thanks to the hard falls, as well as anything else in its price category. Braking and performance seems to feel much better about this generation. And the extra effort put into the construction of the TT aluminum shows. The only updates Audi said he needed to be done for the Cup of the structure in its transformation into a Roadster include a brace in the rear, the construction of reinforced side sills aluminum and steel tubes for the sector beef up the A-pillars. Audi boasts a torsional stiffness is 120 percent higher than the last TT Roadster, and you can feel through the car and stretched answers quiver-free body.

Audi's negotiated some of the uniqueness of the TT in the development of a better car than the more sensitive, more substantial and more spacious. But they were also a little less distinct, and that may have been what the success of TT first question was - made his style and his references iconic appeal.

There are a few cars expressive in the same niche, like Nissan 350Z Roadster or the BMW Z4 Roadster - not to mention a whole class of four-seater rigid Volvo C70 convertible to the BMW 335i, ranging from on the high-end $30000. Each has its own flavor, especially the Nissan - which, from many angles, the new TT looks.

Make no mistake: the new TT's a good-looking, high-performance roadster. It is pleasant to drive, and did not receive any major flaws or drawbacks, other than the rather steep price. It's always glorious to watch, and much more engaging to drive, but it is no longer surprising that the original declaration for the Audi TT was made at the beginning of the decade.

2009 Volkswagen Tiguan Summary

2009 Volkswagen Tiguan

Apparently, the German car manufacturer has come to the handful Tiguan concocted for his companion to the junior size Touareg after giving readers of the popular magazine automobile to choose from among four choices (to be honest, the other three names have never worked).

The Tiguan might be new to the VW range, but the Passat sedan platform-based expansion of vehicle joined the list of cars height of all sizes that offer all-wheel drive for sure-footed in all weather travel.

Volkswagen designers have done themselves proud style Tiguan his body. The nose has a chrome grille (I love that brightwork is back on autos nowadays) and the bulging flanks convey a sense of stability and four-season competence. The Tiguan is much less slab-sided as the largest and most conservative shaped Touareg sport. Size-wise, the Tiguan is a little longer than a Kia Sportage, but nearly nine inches shorter than the new-for-2008 Nissan Rogue. However, the Tiguan's 5.5-foot height bests Rogue per inch.

Equally strong is looking inside, which could easily pass as being from the workshop of BMW design, bearing in mind the high-end type dashboard, seats adapted cleanly and premium carpeting.

Rear passengers will enjoy six inches of fore / aft travel and the 60/40 split reclining seats back. For more cargo space, the rear seat back and the front passenger bucket, can be flat. The space is made even more generous because of the extra-low load floor.

While European buyers can purchase a more robust version of the Tiguan, surcharge on the ground and a 168-horsepower 1.4-liter "Twincharger" (a supercharger operating in combination with a turbocharged) engine, the North American customers will be offered if the "Sport & Style" version set up to use more civilized and sports 200 horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder connected to a six-speed manual or optional six-speed automatic.

The plan is to replace the automatic transmission after the first year with a six-speed direct-shift box (DSG), which works like a manual transmission (but without the need for a clutch pedal) with an automatic mode. The DSG can electronically shift gears in about eight thousandths of a second and to do a more accurate a traditional manual system operated by the driver. The result is improved fuel economy and a vehicle that spends more time in hunting gear for them.

Also coming this way will be a clean-burning 2.0-liter "Bluetec" turbo-diesel option that is similar to what is offered in the Rabbit and Jetta car models.

Exact basic content has not yet been announced, but it is known that three trim levels are offered with the usual air conditioning, cruise control, CD-equipped stereo, power-operated windows, door locks and outside mirrors , 16-inch wheels and six standard airbags.

With VW's 4Motion all-wheel-drive configuration, the list of options include rear-seat side airbags, a premium 300-watt audio package, touch-screen navigation system, rear-view mirrors help park, the size of oversized wheels and a roof.

Although the Tiguan is considered a bit slow off the mark arrival in the compact car category, its many virtues, including a modest base price of $ 22500, will appeal to all those who want to share their biggest ute for a sport more modest and fuel-efficient product which manages to provide a reasonable degree of prestige and performance.

John Fleming, president of the company and general manager of Ford confirmed that Europe is developing a production vehicle inspired by the iosis Concept X to start within two years.

2007 BMW Alpina B7 Review

2007 BMW Alpina B7

Meet Alpina, a German company whose history dates back to BMW 46 years, but is little known in the United States, such as B7 is only the second model officially brought to our shores. The first, about four years ago, was the Alpina Roadster V-8, which is essentially a version of the Z8 roadster with an automatic transmission. All 450 bound for North America, please consult the owners.

Alpina partnership with BMW-B7s out of the assembly line in Dingolfing, Germany, the standard-7s separates it from other BMW tuners, which is particularly useful when the emphasis hugely complex series 7-mail to cope with a supercharging.

The B7 imported here is based on the short-wheelbase 750i, but since Alpina development began when the series-7-the-745i is powered by a 325-hp, 4.4-liter V-8, is the base of the B7. To manage the intermediary of 11.6 psi boost fanned by the centrifugal supercharger, the engine becomes weaker compression ratio pistons and greater crankshaft and connecting rods. The result is a powerful 500 hp and 516 lb.-ft. of torque, making it the most powerful 7-wait-series is the most powerful on-BMW offer.

A centrifugal supercharger does not have a strong commitment to low - and, indeed, a half-throttle run in the B7 feels a little like the delivery of a turbo power, with a sharp increase appearing around 2500 rpm . This means that the B7's sticky Michelins are never overwhelmed, which adds to the B7's deceptively quick mystique. Sixty mph happens in 4.4 seconds, a full second faster than the 750i, and the gap widens, from that moment on the cabin fills with a subdued below the V-8. Roar wind is not really perceptible preliminary Whoa! Does that say 100 mph? And the supercharger has never made a peep.

How the thrust of this? The links B7 the Audi R8, which is 1100 pounds lighter, 12.8 seconds through the quarter mile, at which point the gargantuan Alpina began pulling away. The 551-hp Bentley Flying Spur can not keep up, and Audi's 450-hp S8 is so slow it is hardly worth mentioning. At 60 mph and throughout the quarter, the B7 is 0.2 seconds for the 510-hp, twin-turbo V-12 Mercedes S600, which means that the Alpina probably exceeded the less torquey, naturally aspirated 518 - hp 2008 Mercedes S63 AMG.

But the huge capacity B7 go-4684 books around the skidpad planted a 0.91 g. Mauling the throttle, however, may convince the rear tires to break loose, and the B7 Indulge your fantasies drift until you tire of the black paint jet arcs on the sidewalk (we had to try ). Feel-brake pedal is excellent, and an inch bigger brakes (in the Euro-spec 760i) withstood fade despite repeated pleas to stop 150 mph, although braking distances did is not improved significantly.

The trip is compatible unexpectedly to consider these big wheels, but there is an element of confidence to push the boundaries of B7, as heavy steering and a general sense of isolation make it less involving than one might wish , not instantly synchronize the driver of the car capabilities as a Porsche Boxster. Somewhere, the B7-numbs your senses well, you sit in a very comfortable 20-way-adjustable seat thinking you traveling about 20 mph slower than you actually are, so to remain below triple-digit speeds a constant struggle, even with a sluggish gas to be initiated to achieve results. However, competitors such as S-class has a long way to go to make it communicative.

Think about the body extended aggressive front and rear fascias and a rear spoiler that extends from the trunk-youthful looks a bit like a car like this? Know that Alpina is quite confident in his aerodynamic removing the speed limiter, allowing a claimed 186 mph maximum speed that we have not had an opportunity to verify.

Ah, yes, the price. The B7 starts at $117075, about $40500 more than a 750i but $8000 less than one 760Li and not with competitors such as the upcoming S63 AMG, what we expect to go to $ 125000. Of course, the BMW B7 gets four-year/50000-mile warranty with all services included, wonder what is a car like this.

In Europe, Alpina offers a range of modified BMWs in addition to the B7, including B3-a higher performance 360-hp 335i and 5 - and 6-series cars (B5 and B6) with the powertrain of the B7. We believe that the B5 and B6 may find a following here as they have done just as much power as the M5 and M6, a bouquet of more torque (516 foot-pounds against 383), an easy-to-live-automatic , 30 - Percentage better fuel economy rating, and perhaps even more performance. In fact, in a test by the British magazine Autocar, B6 outperformed an M6 at 60 mph, 100 mph, and from 0 to 100 and back. So it is no surprise that BMW does not intend to bring any of these two possibilities-M spoilers Alpinas or any other, for that matter-to the United States

For the moment, we have an opportunity to appreciate the B7, which BMW plans to sell about 1000 copies total, about 200 in the first year. Beware of the Corvette drivers: You will not be able to make a ditching 68 7-series connoisseurs who are already in distress.

Among fat-cat luxury sedans, the B7 is safe and rewarding to drive. It is commendable agile, responsive, and has nothing in front of a race offensive. But when I get into a vehicle costing more than 100 large, I am looking for an experience that borders on life changing, and the B7's, it's not that. I think the problem is mainly the weight of 4684 pounds. For about 30 less, I give up a smidge inside the chamber and snob appeal to the more involving Benz E63 AMG.

The Alpina B7 is faster, more flexible and more beautiful than the BMW 760Li. So why do I prefer the slower, less exclusive version of the Series 7? Maybe now would be a good engine V-12, a Dr. Jekyll to Mr. whomp Hyde B7 of the supercharger. Or maybe it's that the short-wheelbase B7 only 1.2 inches, the rear seat more legroom than in a series of 5. The 760Li is my idea of what a great luxury sedan should be, even if the increase in tension offerings from Mercedes and Audi crush in a foot race. The B7 is perfectly executed indulgence in raw power, but his character is better suited to the lithe frame set 5 of the 7-series behemoth.

2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR Review

2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR

Mercedes-Benz offers a very nice roadster of its own, the SL, this year celebrating its 50th anniversary. At prices ranging from $ 96000 to $ 188000, the most efficient model SL65 AMG comes with a supercharged V12 engine. Mercedes also has a deep-rooted commitment technical partnership with McLaren Technologies, which in the Formula One racing engine Mercedes-Benz, and this relationship have already arisen from the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren and cutting performance of the 722 SLR cut version. The market has learned that the two companies, it is now time for the ultimate Mercedes-Benz roadster, just in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary. In round figures, the price of this amazing roadster will be $ 495000, with destination and delivery charges of $ 2750.

Mercedes-Benz does not have a rear-mid-engine supercar in its range as Ferrari and Lamborghini and Porsche do, so he chose to create, with a lot of technical assistance, and the assembly by McLaren, England, a kind of Long nose, short-deck first mid-engine supercar. The engines were built in Germany by Mercedes-Benz in the home and studio of high performance, the AMG, and shipped to England to be installed in these organizations very special.

The roadster bodies are completely new, not cut-down versions of the SLR coupe bodies. They are entirely made of three layers of carbon fiber in the race for McLaren shop. In carbon fiber reinforced plastic or CFRP, is about five times stronger than steel to crush (or crash) situations, about half the weight. (It is also much more expensive.) The body in one piece, then with a huge V-shaped aluminum girder on each side that is attached to the front of the firewall to bring the engine, transmission, front suspension and steering. The carbon fibre wings and the bonnet full body.

The 626 horses supercharged 5.5 litre V8 nestles under the long, long hood, breathing directly through the star of Mercedes-Benz in the nose of the car, and escaped through a pact mounted l 'before exhaust system that leaves from the bottom edges of wings before. This does three things. It works very well for emissions, while retaining catalytic converters warm. It helps to better breathing engine at high speed. It eliminates a lot of pipes and mufflers under the car, which has a flat bottom for clean aerodynamics. Oh, and four, it is the sound of the V8 engine very close to the cockpit, where it can be appreciated. Read on to lead our impressions to see what we thought of it all.

A glance would tell anyone that the proximity SLR Roadster is something very special, a legitimate 200 mph car. From this point of long, pointed nose and front spoiler on the side exhaust pipes, functional hood vents and fender vents and scissors doors, there is very little front-engine cars that carry with them all kind of visual impact, and two of them are SLR cuts.

The main differentiator is the tight, closely designed convertible top. Once the lock is released and the button, a second push of the button will automatically store and hide it in a simple top 10 seconds. Establish the top is even simpler than that. When the top is down, the decibel from the front fender-mounted exhaust pipes go way, way, but that is part of the car and part of the charm of what you pay for a exoticar like .

The rear bodywork behind convertible top contains a well air brake automatic, which works like the ones used on Mercedes-Benz race cars of the 1950's, which raises automatically will help slow the car and keep the Rear stable in the event of emergency braking. Bedrock roadster rear of a built-in undertray to control airflow and add high-speed stability as well.

The reflex of the extensive list of standard equipment includes semi-aniline leather upholstery fitted to a pair of carbon fibre and bucket seats that can be adapted for the driver and front passenger using different sizes seat pads ; dual-zone automatic air conditioning; A premium sound Bose, a sports multifunction steering wheel with gear-shift paddles, and a navigation system with an AM / FM radio and CD changer-compiled with.

Do not look for a big fancy polished chrome, wood or inside the SLR, because no. This is a very athletic inside, mostly with black, brushed finish on most metal parts that are not erupt in the eye in full sun with the top down. Our silver test car had a black interior with a sort of terra cotta red accent plate, and he was quite satisfied, focusing on the provision of necessary data for the driver, as quickly and clearly as possible by the means of two pods central instrument in the highlands The scoreboard dashboard.

Wow! Would a good place to start, followed by the spirit and the heart-pounding-bending. Although Mercedes-Benz cites a 0-62 mph (0-100 km / h) time of only 3.8 seconds, or about three heart beat, he feels even faster than that, and it will just continue roadworthy, and faster and faster, until you reach a speed of about 200 mph, depending on the winds. Power delivery is very smooth and very linear, more a turbine or a jet engine piston. He is assisted in his mission with a five-speed automatic transmission with three modes of travel, Comfort, Sport and Manual, with a manual by using either the floor shifter or steering wheel mounted paddles for manual movement. In the manual mode, there are three other choices to upshift and downshift speeds, Sport, and Supersport Race.

The manner in which the engine and transmission were centered weight and lowered in the chassis gives the SLR roadster is a built-in the desire to turn left or right very quickly thanks to the quick ratio power steering system. The race quality dual-arm front and rear suspension systems combine with extremely rigid body and chassis to give the beautiful SLR identify the direction and handling en route situations.

If you have half a million dollars uncommitted elsewhere, and if you want a lot of car says a lot about you and the level of performance you need in life, in business, in the automobile and transport, the Mercedes-Benz SLR Roadster Make a grand entry, like few other cars in automotive history. Yet it is not in a bad mood or persnickety uncomfortable or very long, readers who wander through the countryside. But this car is also about pulling the country clubs, first of films, sporting events, restaurants and night-clubs with the top and oozing panache of each molecule. Great car all around.

2007 Suzuki SX4 Review

2007 Suzuki SX4

It is not a hybrid, it's not a Scion, and it is not a plush toy. This is a Suzuki SX4, but it looks like it may have started life as any one of those three. Instead, what you see here is the least expensive all-wheel drive car in America, which means that the power to all four wheels is no longer the exclusive province of the birth of the well-off and wristed thin. Of course, the small-Giugiaro designed hatchback (which is also sold in Europe as the Fiat Sedici) is inexpensive, about $ 15000, but that's not its only advantage. It is a discount in the Subaru Impreza and driving pleasure.

That's a bold statement to make, but if you can forget the car is relatively bleak fuel economy (23 miles per gallon in the city, but a test drive can make heroic to the average well below 20 mpg), it is quite true. The SX4 a snappy feel-tight steering and responsive to the holding of a dividing line on a ramp or cutting through traffic. It goes like swimming sperm. Its five-speed shifter proletariat is perfect. And it responds to changes in the weight transfer of a small car should easily and without much fanfare.

Although all-wheel drive system does not act as a real contributor in the implementation process, as in an Audi or Subaru, it is available for adverse conditions when a driver does not want to lock the differential in place until at 50 -50 Splitting up front to back. Otherwise, and at speeds of over 36 miles per hour, it is generally 95 percent front-wheel-drive-biased TI in normal mode, or entirely 2WD mode. The small switch is located between the front seats, next to the handbrake. The best fuel economy can be found in 2WD mode, but of course, you carry the weight of the system around all the time, whatever your schedule rallying. Purchasers of the Suzuki should not expect a fuel-efficient city car. They should expect a major greenhouse revver than necessary with all-wheel drive capability. At more than 2800 pounds, the SX4 is hundreds of pounds heavier than a Ford Focus or Nissan Versa. But if this issue if it contributes to the stability of the car? A philosophical question and macroeconomic (please, stay with me) should be: if Suzuki can offer all-wheel drive for less than $ 15000, should not everybody?

New 2008 Honda Accord Sedan

2008 Honda Accord Sedan

The new 2008 Honda Accord sedan takes a lot of style issue of the brand new Honda Civic was redesigned for 2006. The 8th generation of the agreement has smooth lines that seem to flow seamlessly from front to back. Compared with the new Accord coupe, sedan is a little higher with a little less aggressive. Exterior dimensions will not change significantly compared with the Accord sedan.

There will probably be two engines: a 3.5-liter V-6 of 270 horsepower, and a 2.4-liter V-4 to 180 hp. This will put the sedan in the same competitive range as the Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry. Expect gas mileage to improve slightly with the new model, although unfortunately, a hybrid version will not be released until at least 2009.

The price of the sedan Accord'08 has not yet been officially published by Honda, but you can expect prices range from $ 18k - 20k base for the V-4 models, to about 30k for a well-equipped V-6. The new Accord sedans will be listed at dealerships this month.

The family car mid-sized hailed as America's favorite is the new 2008 Honda Accord Coupe. If you sign on the basis of no-frills entry LX or EX-L refined, expect the same level of manpower and security features essential. Either equipped with an aluminum alloy 4-cylinder that pumps 177 or 190 horses, or horses V6 268, you can also equip your agreement with 5-speed automatic or manual.

On the farm, calm foundation of unity of the body construction of the Compact of 2008 plays with solid, reassuring stability. Handling with the agility of a slot car is not easy to do without the saloon double wishbone front suspension. Being on the American road for over thirty years has benefited from Honda rewarding its efforts to optimize the design of family vehicle.

More important than ever, we must first point out the difference in the Agreement wide opening doors for ease of entry and exit for both drivers and passengers. The Agreement of 2008 looks more impressive and important than in the past, with bold, assertive body lines, and new distinctive grille. The catch door handles and chrome exhaust tips, and the option of 17 "wheels add to the car's commanding presence.

Honda attributes its success in part to his unwavering goal of equipping its cars today with the most successful technologies. The V6 engine that powers the 2008 Agreement Variable Cylinder Management uses for the power supply of cylinders when demand is low, and the powers that be when all cylinders acceleration and torque are necessary. Control of emissions is imperative to Honda in its mission statement, as he was born in the Agreement being treated as a Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle-.

From the inside, the 2008 Honda Accord sedan is improved on all parameters. The style of the new year is conservative but powerful. In the Agreement, security is ensured with his ABS disc brakes and standard front and side curtain airbags. The complete remake of the 2008 Agreement will be many believers current owners of luxury car looking for a new car this year.

2008 Honda Accord Sedan

2008 Honda Accord Sedan

Have you heard the one about Honda Accord owners? They are so faithful that when it is time to get a new car, they simply buy the new version of the Accord.

This may sound like a joke, but it's true in about half of the sales agreement. You see, Honda research shows that 50 percent of new agreements to go to consumers who already possess a remarkable statistical Agreements for a plaque, which is now over 30 years.

In fact, Honda officials to know who owns their fourth Agreement. Some do not even bother to go around to see what else is new on the market. This year, there will be even less reason for them to look beyond their Honda, as later, the eighth generation Accord arrive.

The Agreement of 2008 is more spacious, more powerful, front-wheel drive, with the coupe or sedan looks richer, more features, safety improvements, detailed and a touch enjoyable ride.

It is also expensive. From now on, the retail price for a $ 20360 sedan with four-cylinder engine and manual transmission. This compares to $ 18625 for a base 2007 Accord sedan and four-cylinder manual. Accord Coupe prices rose, too, with the lowest retail prices are now starting to $ 21860. This contrasts with $ 20475 for a base of the Accord Coupe 2007. The cheapest, at the 2008 Accord V6 is a sedan with automatic start, and a retail price of $ 25960.

The reason for the price increase is mostly new, additional equipment, and elimination of the Agreement on a cheaper package (VP). All Accords of 2008 came with the standard wheel mounted, anti-whiplash front-seat head restraints and electronic stability control. The new, safe head restraints are not provided in the Agreement predecessor, and stability and control wheel controls previously available only on high-trim models. The Agreement standard side curtain airbags are also more sophisticated, with new two-bedroom units that can be deployed much longer than before.

But what has not changed in 5 passengers will Agreement is its durability, and quality, which are the main reasons for purchasing their much-loyal buyers. In a pre-sale consumption of 2008 showing Accord, Honda have regained people praised the perceived quality, and some have expressed what they thought of the new Accord looks more prestigious than what they expect you to Honda.

This probably will not hurt sales of the Accord, a model which has been among the top five best-selling cars in the United States for over 20 years. In fact, by the end of 2007, total sales in the United States are expected to top $ 10 million, surpassing such well known that the name of the Toyota Camry and Ford Taurus.

But perhaps not obvious at first glance, the new Accord is the biggest yet iteration. In fact, my 6-foot-tall husband and I (5'4 ") did not even rub elbows as we sat in the saloon sharing agreement of the front seats and the now enlarged centre armrest / storage console lid.

Another indicator of growth is that the 2008 Accord sedan is now classified as a "large" because, according to the internal volume rankings of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The 2007 Accord sedan was similar to its direct competitors, the Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima-classified as a "medium".

Do not fret that the four-door Accord is now the size of a Lincoln Town Car. Far from it. The Agreement of 2008 to 106 cubic feet of passenger volume of the saloon advice comes in the "Great" class for the first time. The Camry mid-size has 101.4 cubic feet of volume of passenger compartment, while Toyota "large" Avalon has 106.9 cubic feet. If you want a cozier ride in a mid-size sedan, try the Mazda6, with a volume of 96.1 cubic feet travellers.

The new Accord coupe is slightly smaller than the inside of the Accord sedan and its 104.1 cubic feet of passenger volume has increased by only 0.1 cubic feet between 2007 Accord Coupe.

How do you Accord sedan greatest? Three inches were added to the total length, with an additional inch added to the width. The new Accord sedan is now almost 5 inches longer than a Camry, and 4.3 inches longer than the Nissan Altima.

Capacity fuel rose by 1.4 gallons to match the Camry's 18.5-gallon fuel tank, but the sedan's trunk space remains the same at a generous 14 cubic feet (which include four Golf bags). With room remaining static trunk, you probably can guess passenger received gains from the increase in size.

Legs Rear grew last year from 36.8 to 37.2 inches, and there are more than 2 inches of hip room in the front seats than there were last year. That means there are more than 2 inches of front-seat hip room in the Agreement that in the Camry sedan, even though the Camry has a half inch of the rear seat more legroom.

The best part of the Agreement of 2008 is that it does not like a big car. With a double-wishbone suspension in front and a new multilink suspension replacing the previous rear double wishbone configuration, the new Accord maintains an agile and easy to drive sentiment. One of the few nits is that the turning circle climbed slightly to 37 feet, the 2007 sedan 36.1 feet.

Honda engineers have been stingy about adding weight to the new Accord, because of the reduced weight of fuel. The basis of the 2008 Accord sedan weighs only 89 pounds more than his counterpart in 2007. And the base, 2.4-litre 4-cylinder, now with 177 horsepower (compared to last year's 166 horses), has a fuel economy rating that changed little.

According to preliminary estimates by Honda, the best government mileage rating for a 2008 agreement with the 4-cylinder engine mated to a manual 5-speed: 22 city / 31 mpg hwy. This is almost the same as last year, less powerful, 4-cylinder manual tranny Accord, which would have rated 23/31 mpg 2008 if the government mileage calculations were used (the federal government reduced fuel ratings of the quasi all vehicles in 2008 because a new, more stringent, the use of fuel formula is used).

The story is even better for the Agreement of 2008 with its new, larger displacement, 3.5 liter V6. With 268 horsepower, it's the most powerful engine ever offered in a Honda. But despite the increase in power, the 2008 has a V6 of the preliminary agreement in the opinion of the government mileage 19/29 mpg for sedan equipped with a 5-speed automatic. This exceeds the rating of the less powerful, 3.0-liter 2007 Accord V6 automatic (18/26 mpg) in the new government calculations 2008.

The fuel notable figures from the i-VTEC V6 are derived from a variable cylinder engine management system which allows the engine to operate on six, four or even three cylinders, as required driver, terrain, etc. One Honda to a nonhybrid car production, managing variable cylinder is available only with the agreement of 5-speed automatic transmission. Note that Honda Odyssey minivan took cylinder variable in the management of its V6 before the arrival of the 2008 Agreement. But the Odyssey V6 has been able to adjust bottles from six to three.

However, while some consumers may wish for a smaller Agreement with even greater fuel economy, Honda is trying to "reach accord" by balancing a car with more spacious fuel.

2009 Ford Edge Sport

Ford is providing still more sizzle for America’s best-selling mid-size crossover, introducing a new factory-customized model – the 2009 Edge Sport. “The new Ford Edge Sport is designed to instantly appeal to crossover customers who want a sportier custom look and feel,” said John Felice, general manager, Ford Division. “This specialty design reflects the growing popularity of personalization and more customers’ interest in industry shows like the annual Hot Import Nights around the country and the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in Las Vegas.”

The Sport model – which joins the SE, SEL and Limited models in the range – makes the Ford Edge the first vehicle in its segment to offer a customized model. Its modern, athletic design, flexible package and unique features like VistaRoof™ and SYNC helped sell 130,125 Edge units in 2007, making it the nation’s top-selling crossover. The new Edge Sport model will further distinguish it from competitors.

Edge Sport stands on even bolder, available 22-inch polished aluminum wheels or the standard 20-inch premium painted wheels with branded center hubs. Low-profile, 40-series Pirelli Scorpion Zero tires complete the look, giving Edge Sport an aggressive stance.

This marks the first time that a 22-inch wheel-and-tire combination has been offered on a crossover. The eight-piece Edge Sport body kit includes a unique front air dam, side skirts, lower door caps and a rear skirt, all finished in body color, instead of the dark lower on other Edge models. The front air dam features integrated fog lamps and a lower grille insert. These elements combine with the unique wheels and tires to provide a sporty personality.

Details, like custom Sport badging, polished dual exhaust tips emerging from openings in the rear skirt and “foundry gray” smoked headlamp and taillamp lenses, add to its purposeful look.

In addition to lustrous Sport Blue paint on the model highlighted at the Chicago Auto Show, Edge Sport will be available in Ebony, Brilliant Silver and Redfire. Inside, dark gray leather seats feature unique suede-feel patterned inserts in a combination of light and dark gray. Contrasting, light gray stitching gives the seats a premium appeal. The contrasting stitched leather also is used on the Edge Sport steering wheel and shift knob.

Edge Sport is further distinguished by an appealing etched metal effect on the instrument panel center console.

“While custom-made to appeal to customers, Edge Sport is smart business,” said Mark Fields, president of The Americas. “The aftermarket industry has grown to a $40 billion annual business, and crossovers are the fastest-growing vehicle segment in the U.S. We want customers who crave something special to know that Ford can customize their Edge – right at the factory.”

Land Rover LRX

With the tide turning against all-road vehicles, Land Rover has recently been heavily plugging carbon sequestration. At the same time, bonds and hybrids are fast gaining popularity and the Land Rover LRX could meet this demand.

The three doors LRX is described as a cross-cut dramatically expands the scope of what Land Rover. Although 149 mm (5.9 in) shorter than the Freelander 2 / LR2 and 205 mm (8.1 in) lower LRX has been designed as a premium car, designed to attract new customers in the luxury sector and executive - those who want a lot of advantages of a 4x4 and the presence of a larger vehicle, but in a more compact.

His Land Rover many recognizable landmarks include designing bold new interpretations of the signature clamshell bonnet, the floating roof and strong "wheel-each-corner" position. The compact size is one of its greatest assets, will appeal to those who want the versatility of an agile 4x4 capability with the cachet of the Land Rover name. Furthermore, its reduced weight and reducing aerodynamic drag resulting from the smallest frontal surface yielding gains Important in fuel economy and reducing CO2 emissions.

The LRX is designed as a highly fuel-efficient, US Federal-specification, 2.0 litre turbo hybrid, capable of running on bio-diesel. In combination with other technologies Land Rover, this powertrain could reduce fuel consumption by up to 30% compared with other similar sized 4x4, and reduce emissions of about 120 g / km.

The concept Integrated Electric Rear Axle Drive (ERAD) is particularly significant in terms of the Land Rover because it would allow the LRX use electric motors at low speed alone, while retaining the full (even improved) 4x4 capability in difficult conditions. Unlike the hybrid technology used by some 4x4 rivals, Land Rover retains unique solution for mechanical drive all four wheels.

The electric drive system is used to provide additional torque when the off-road, and like most hybrids can propel the car when on-road use for short distances. A stop-start system is built for road traffic.
