Suzuki Presents Cars on Geneva Motor Show

Today, Suzuki announced what are the cars which will be on display at their stand at the Geneva Motor Show. The main attraction will be the Suzuki A-Star Concept, which debuted at the New Delhi show, at the beginning of this month. The A-Star, which was developed by Suzuki Japan and Maruti Suzuki India, will be the producer’s offer in the small car class.

Also on display will be the impressive Suzuki Kizashi Concept and the Kizashi 2, which debuted at Frankfurt and at the Tokyo Motor Show. These concepts show Suzuki’s vision on the future of sports cars. Sport lovers will also get to see the Suzuki SX4 WRC racing car, which will be Suzuki’s first shot at the World Rally Championship.

We’ll also get to see the Suzuki Splash, aimed at small families and which will go on sale this March. So, a lot of cool cars from Suzuki and we’ll be there, at Geneva, to report for you, between 6 and 16 March.

2010 Audi A1 Preview

The minicar segment is about to explode, with new models planned from most of the major carmakers including, for the first time, premium labels such as Audi, which is planning to launch the new A1 hatch in 2009. A concept version of the car will be displayed at next month’s Tokyo Motor Show complete with a hybrid drivetrain. These new renderings give us an accurate look at what to expect, revealing designers are going with conventional hatchback styling and Audi’s familiar oversized grille.

The A1 won’t be a niche model. Audi management is hoping to sell more than 100,000 units per year and will likely add a ’shooting brake’ mini-estate and cabrio to its lineup. Audi is also rumored to be working on a mini SUV labeled the Q1, which you can see a preview of by clicking here. In addition to the mild hybrid version, Audi will also build cars equipped with more conventional TSI and FSI petrol engines as well as its frugal TDI diesels displacing 1.4 and 1.6L.

The car will be built on a new platform that will also spawn the next-gen VW Polo as well as allow engineers to add quattro AWD for a low-volume performance model. The new platform also means engineers may add a new low cost dual-clutch transmission with seven gears in total. Unlike the production version of the VW up! concept, the Audi A1 won’t be cheap and is expected to have a price tag of around €20,000. By contrast, VW’s minicar is expected to cost close to €8,000.

Lexus IS Coupe

Since it's launch in Japan in 1998, the Lexus IS series has always had at least four doors and, for a while, was offered with five. But Toyota's 3-Series challenger has never directly taken on the Munich's coupe or convertible models. That may change soon though as Lexus' Australian Manager John Roca has dropped a hint about an IS coupe. In a press release for a limited edition IS250x Roca is quoted as expressing excitement about upcoming models including "the V8-powered IS-F and potentially, an IS coupe in the future." It will be interesting to see what Toyota has on their stand at the Tokyo Motor Show in October.
