2009 Audi A4 3.0 TDI

2009 Audi A4 3.0 TDI

In terms of production planning, the United States is no market for cars leads us. Sure, Audi plans to begin selling an SUV Q7 with the same 3.0-liter turbo diesel V6 starts in less than a year and you can bet that the installation in his best-seller, A4 follow. But a manual transmission? Nobody buys more, and certainly not in a German luxury sedan… expensive or would they be?

After taking a spin in Audi A4 newly kitted with the 3.0 TDI with 6-speed manual, we can say firmly that it is a fantastic package and it's all your fault, it will not be coming. Well, not exactly, but in general buying public as a whole and their anti-manual. If your job is to read customer preferences as well as the good people in the department AoA product planning, then this is not the right configuration for achieving sales targets. Alas, the reality is another name for a female mutt. You know… the b-word.

So when this solitary A4 3.0 TDI appeared among rows of Q7s Audi diesel at a recent road test of winter, you know exactly where we bee-lined.

The first thing that strikes you on the new A4 is its size. Although not quite as wide as his brother aggressive off the A5, A4 is actually lower than the two doors slung, including larger than the outgoing A4. Even still, the new A4 considerably bears a strong resemblance with the torrid coupe - visual osmosis that Audi is to help banks in their most popular continue with sales model.

Under the hood of the brand new A4 bat an engine that will be the nucleus of the mark the rebirth of diesel in North America. The 3.0 V6 TDI produces a 237-hp conservative and, as is typical of a diesel engine, the couple eclipses that this figure - his health 369 lb-ft is the humble valve engine 1500 rpm . Accordingly, a version with manual transmission like our tester is capable of 0-60 runs in just 6.1 seconds - a mere 0.2 seconds slower than the twin-turbo B5 S4 less than ten years.

Inside the gray Audi, the beautiful new interior borrows much of the A5/S5 cuts. Amber-brown leather seats contrasts with the car, while the equipment once reserved for the highest price quotations Audi is now available and often standard - MMI, the electronic parking brake, the camera back, and more .

Making his debut on the new Audi A4 is the promenade Select (ADS). With ADS, the driver can choose its own settings for the suspension, the anchor, a sense of direction, and the response time. There are four settings: comfort, automatic and dynamic programs are pre-established, while individuals can refine specific parameters via the MMI screen instructions. Go with individual, and you can apply any supply each of the factors - say, steering and gas dynamics, but comfort suspension or Auto. Change the more comfortable the more dynamic gases and parameters steering allows a subtle alteration of the response. Setting the suspension nets more obvious results, though - firming the racing car and adding a slight degree of severity. Audi tells the ADS system will be introduced in the more highly equipped models.

On snow-covered roads around Niagara-on-the-Lake, the A4 felt ready and verifiable. No doubt, the most rearward engine placement of the new Audi longitudinal modular architecture allows the balance of the car. With so much torque on tap, the A4 is more than willing to send up rooster tails of snow in the four corners of the ASR was once disabled. Even before ESP is off, the programming is rather lenient for you to hang the car a bit, but you still need roads whitewashed to really play Form D field.

More interesting, the larger and more luxurious and more powerful A4 is said to net more than 40 mpg. The A4 diesel could help establish a new paradigm for fans of socially conscious performance. Unfortunately for fans, the conditions of the American market (as evidenced by the high price of federalization and low transmission rate manual gearbox) mean an A4 3.0 TDI will probably not come with two pedals when it reaches our shores somewhere in 2009. Even still, the car will be no slouch and DSG (S-tronic Audi speak) may get the nod, even if it does not play well with the types of JD Power.

Audi side assist uses sensors to warn of vehicles approaching in mirror blind spots, while Audi lane assist guards against unintentional lane changes by activating steering wheel vibrations to alert the driver.

The highly efficient 1.8 TFSI (160PS) and 3.2 FSI (265PS) petrol and 2.0 TDI (143PS) and 3.0 TDI (240PS) diesel units powering the first wave of A4 models will initially be available linked to a six-speed manual gearbox, with the ultra-efficient multitronic continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) reserved exclusively for the 2.7 TDI (190PS). More combinations will be available as the range expands during 2008.

To channel the impressive outputs of these highly efficient units to the road as effectively as possible, the new A4 sits on the longest wheelbase in the class, its front axle repositioned 154mm further forwards than in the existing car. Audi A4Audi A4Audi A4

We found the first spy shots of the new Audi A4 Avant which will most likely be unveiled at Geneva Motor Show 2008. Nice!

Snapped testing outside Audi's Ingolstadt factory, the Avant follows the design principles used on the new A4 and features a typical sloping roofline.

Petrol and turbodiesel engines will be carried over from the sedan range. The five engines have outputs ranging from 105 kW to 195 kW.

Front wheel drive or quattro all-wheel drive will be offered, along with a choice of transmissions, ranging from a six-speed manual gearbox to tiptronic automatic and multitronic continuously variable transmissions.

New Audi A4 appears on web

Audi A4

Though the new Audi A4 is supposed to debut next month in Frankfurt, a single shot of Ingolstadt's most important four-door has appeared on the web over at the AutoWeek.nl forums. It appears to be the very real deal, and is accompanied by some specific info, which we've done our best to translate and provide in easy to digest morsels below.

  • .27 coeffcient of drag
  • Base engine is 1.8L TFSI producing 160 hp
  • 3.2L V6 FSI available producing 260 hp

Spy Shots: Honda Accord coupe

Honda Accord coupe

The upcoming Honda Accord sedan has already made a few public appearances in the buff, but its two-door sibling hasn't been caught in the same compromising position – until now. Although previous mules have been spotted sporting artfully applied camo, these newest shots finally give us the full Monty, with only the badges being obscured by color-matched tape.

Compared to the concept that debuted in Detroit, the blocky front end has dispatched the hard angles for a much more curvaceous clip, with deeply contoured fog lamp recesses and a smoothed out lower air dam to feed the radiator. Out back, the lines are somewhat reminiscent of the shooter's Civic Si coupe, coupled with a set of taillights that hint at the last generation Audi A4. The interior is on par with the shots we've seen recently of the sedan, with a three-spoke wheel and nicely bolstered thrones.

Changes: 2008 Audi A4 and A6

2008 Audi A4 A6
Audi has three significant new models coming out for 2008: the A5/S5 Coupe, the TT and the R8 sports car. Those three will certainly overshadow the rest of the 2008 lineup, which gets just minor tweaks. The two biggest changes in the current lineup impact the bread-and-butter A4 and A6 sedans and Avant wagons.

Both models will add the optional S-Line trim as standard equipment. These body modifications add beefier front and rear bumpers, more-menacing grilles, integrated rear spoilers and 18-inch wheels on the A6. For 2007, the S-Line option packages were quite expensive — $3,400 on the A4 — but also included features like a sunroof. Still, we see the changes as pretty significant ones that will provide a nice bonus to A4 buyers, since the line will get a redesign for 2009. There is still no word on a redesign of the A6 line.

The A6 also adds standard headlight washers, Sirius Satellite Radio and seat-back storage for 2008. A 2007 Audi A6 with S-Line trim is shown above.

The 2008 A4 and A6 will go on sale in August. Prices have not been announced. The 2007 Audi A4 and A6 currently have financing offers available for shoppers not interested in the 2008 changes.
